Medium-Temperature Pyrolysis of Corn Stover Improved by Biopretreatment with White-rot Fungi

چکیده
This work investigated the ability of biopretreatment with different whiterot fungi to improve the medium-temperature pyrolysis of biomass. It was found that biopretreatment can significantly increase the production of phenols and glucopyranoside up to 2.82 and 2.94 fold, respectively. Biopretreatment can also decrease the content of carbon dioxide, propanol, and propanone, making the pyrolysis more efficient and product-oriented. Moreover, distinct bio-deconstruction mechanisms can result in different pyrolysis products. By deconstructing cellulose and modifying lignin with a minimum of demethoxyation, white-rot fungus Irpex lacteus CD2 can improve the production of acetaldehyde (up to 6.72%) and methoxyl substitutes such as dimethoxyphenyl (up to 21.59 folds). By decomposing carbohydrates, carbonxyl, and methoxyl groups, white-rot fungi Pleurotus ostreatus BP2 and Echinodontium taxodii 2538 can increase the production of D-allose (up to 3.09%) and formic acid (up to 6.98%), while decreasing the methoxyl substitutes such as 2methoxy-4-vinylphenol (up to 70.08%).

Influence of Biopretreatment on the Character of Corn Stover Lignin as Shown by Thermogravimetric and Chemical Structural Analyses
The effect of corn stover lignin structure alteration caused by white-rot fungi pretreatment on the pyrolysis kinetics was studied by FTIR and TG/DTA. Results showed that biopretreatment had a remarkable effect on lignin pyrolysis. Biopretreatment can decrease the activation energy and increase the pre-exponential factor in the initial stage of pyrolysis, which makes it possible to start the li...
متن کاملBiological Pretreatment under Non-sterile Conditions for Enzymatic Hydrolysis of Corn Stover
Pretreatment with white-rot fungi can effectively remove lignin and decompose the structure of biomass to enhance subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis. This study developed a novel fungal pretreatment of biomass, which was operated under non-sterile conditions. The white-rot fungus Irpex lacteus colonized stably on the non-sterile substrates and effectively degraded lignin. After non-sterile fungal ...
متن کاملA novel and efficient fungal delignification strategy based on versatile peroxidase for lignocellulose bioconversion
BACKGROUND The selective lignin-degrading white-rot fungi are regarded to be the best lignin degraders and have been widely used for reducing the saccharification recalcitrance of lignocellulose. However, the biological delignification and conversion of lignocellulose in biorefinery is still limited. It is necessary to develop novel and more efficient bio-delignification systems. RESULTS Phys...
متن کاملEnzyme production by wood-rot and soft-rot fungi cultivated on corn fiber followed by simultaneous saccharification and fermentation.
This research aims at developing a biorefinery platform to convert lignocellulosic corn fiber into fermentable sugars at a moderate temperature (37 °C) with minimal use of chemicals. White-rot (Phanerochaete chrysosporium), brown-rot (Gloeophyllum trabeum), and soft-rot (Trichoderma reesei) fungi were used for in situ enzyme production to hydrolyze cellulosic and hemicellulosic components of co...

This study examined the influence of pyrolysis temperature on biochar characteristics and evaluated its suitability for carbon capture and energy production. Biochar was produced from corn stover using slow pyrolysis at 300, 400 and 500°C and 2 hrs holding time. The experimental biochars were characterized by elemental analysis, BET, FTIR, TGA/DTA, NMR (C-13). Higher heating value (HHV) of feed...
